Yay Thumbs! (?)

What is it with the thumbs?  Should FIS be spending less time on ski length and more time on thumb protection?  Blowing out a knee can end a career, but a thumb injury can mean arthritis for life.

Carter Robertson, a classic work-glove-wearer turned hand-destroyer from Maine, mailed in these pictures of his recently smashed thumb, courtesy of a 30mm SPM.  It adds up to about 3 weeks off snow.  Pick your damn hands up!

How To Get a Good Warm-Up

Canadian men's World Cup physio Matt Price posted this video on Twitter a few days ago, detailing what he considers to be an adequate warm-up. These are things to do not just before you lift or workout, but also before you go race. Most of us warm up before a workout, but most of us do not warm up (other than a few free runs) before a race. If that seems paradoxical to you (Hint: it should), then here's how to fix it. This is part of the Proper Preparation that Prevents Poor Performance, plus, like yoga, you'll probably be surprised at how good it makes you feel.

More Disgusting Thumbs

Why you shouldn't use both hands at once when tuning skis: Because if you slip, you're twice as screwed.

Also incurred in this particular incident were some hefty facial injuries, a result of passing out face first on carpet-over-concrete. An ambulance was called. 36 stitches were given. Never tune alone.
