New Rules For Airlines Might Make Your Travel A Little Easier

From npr.org

There are some new rules put in place by the US Department of Transportation that may help you when travelling.  Check out the NPR coverage here to get the rundown on some of the changes and clarifications.  The major changes are mostly in regard to lost bags, canceled flights, and waiting times on the runway.  These are definitely things that will be good to know, as traveling in the Winter with tons of skis and gear is never easy.

The airlines aren't happy about it, saying that they should be left to themselves and let the market correct itself.  What they mean by that is that they should be left alone to to squeeze every last cent out of their passengers, so we're happy to have the Feds on our side on this one.  Still, air travel is getting more expensive at a rapid rate, and airlines are quickly tightening the strings on the rules for oversized and overweight baggage, and the folks at the counter who enforce those rules seem to be getting better and better at doing so.

Air travel costs seem to be spiraling out of control right now.  Where will they stop?

Be Careful, Delta Airlines Might Pee on Your Stuff

Truly an unfortunate circumstance for this gentleman.  Gotta love people who are willing to speak their minds and take the time to point out things that aren't right, don't you?  Seriously, you do, right?

Here's a great write-up about it.  Hopefully this guy either doesn't need to wear clothes while he's in Minneapolis, or that he works in a pet shop or a composting facility or something.

Stuck

Stuck in the airport over night?  We've all been there at one point or another, but most of us didn't do it this well.  On their way home from a Formula Drift event in Florida, these two dudes got stranded overnight at DFW (coincidentally, a surprisingly common occurrence for those flying to Chile also).  Being pro photographers, they were carrying about $30,000 worth of gear in their backpacks, and they capitalized.  Try this at home.

Ponies!

Studies by the NHTSA and NTSB show that your already-dangerous 15-passenger van gets even more tippy when loaded in the back, and even further still with passengers in it.  Not to mention the 20+ pairs of skis in the roof rack.  So, the next time you stuff your team's death-trap into a snowbank in the middle of nowhere, just look for the nearest horse barn.

Bon chance!

How can you tell it's about to get serious in northern Quebec? A block heater on your gasoline powered Dodge Neon. Good luck!
