A friend emailed us these pictures of some new boots from Atomic. No word on whether/when they'll be available to you, but they look like a pretty sweet mix of carbon fiber and plastic - and hopefully no
plastic disguised as carbon fiber. Anybody know anything about these? Looks like the carbon is bonded with the plastic and maybe gets anchored near the sole of the boot? Also,
Redster? Somebody should help the Austrians with their product
names.

Anybody worried about planing/canting the boot sole with what appears to be a carbon plug coming through the base of the heel lug? Will the carbon help these things come out of the mold a little "straighter" with less torsional distortion?
ReplyDeleteThe carbon fibers are mixed with plastic and injected into the mold - the resultant hybrid CF/plastic can be ground, bumped, shaved just like usual - hence bootsole grinding is ok. Or you can use precut canting shims that are now available to match with riser plates.
ReplyDeleteThe boot has several novel design features that are going to take alignment and function to the next level :)
Listened to the Atomic rep explain all the features of this boot to my daughter. He made it sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread! Carbon fibers mixed in the cuff for greater responsiveness, three different footbeds to make them more or less stiff for different events, on and on -- it took 20 minutes to explain this boot. Has anybody out there actually skied on them?
ReplyDeleteTried these boots out last weekend, they are what should call it... a lot different. This is a great new boot, they make the initiation of the turn much easier and they are SUPER comfy! 1 thing to note is to pay 0 attention to what is says for flex.
ReplyDeleteIf you had a 130 rt ti last year it is the same as a 150 wc this year at least! never the less they are great new boot added to the atomic brand!
Ps. The new designs for the skis and boots look awesome too!
