Run of the Day: Bode Miller Makes History
In 2002, Bode Miller took a run of Slalom that a lot of people missed. Since I've now heard three separate people mention it this year as "The Most Amazing Run," it seemed prudent to share it here. It was at the Salt Lake City Olympics, in the combined, and since it wasn't in the real DH or SL, it went sort of unnoticed. But those of us that did watch it were struck. This was the first expression of the truth of short, shaped SL skis: This is how good it can be. Is it the perfect run? Maybe, but it's certainly Bode at his very best. Even now, 9 years on, people who watched this happen still talk about it as the best run of Slalom they've ever seen. Note the time difference when he crosses the finish line. Note the deficit he overcame to take second place overall (2.5 seconds). See how Bode barely looks excited when he crosses the finish line? That's because he knows it was perfect and he's not sure if it's real. Or maybe he's just not sure if the clock is right.
Anyone have this in HD?
