Watch and Learn: 1974 Lange Cup Shows Us The Shape Of Things To Come
Remember the simpler times of the mid-1970's? When GS radius was a cool 40+ meters and standheights were in the neighborhood of 0 mm? Me neither. But this classic video reminds us all of how great those times were.
It was an era when a man could apparently wear faux-denim stretch pants and be taken seriously; when nobody wore a helmet, or even really a hat for that matter; when kids climbed up on lift towers to watch the race and nobody kicked them off; and when somebody thought that folk music was the best soundtrack to fully display just how badass skiing is.
Yes, these were good times for everyone. Except the Lange girl, who suffers a wardrobe malfunction part way through, and then malfunctions physically after some a-hole points her down a slalom course in her mostly naked state. She apparently has not skied before, much to our collective enjoyment.
Enjoy the video. Warner and Ted, if you're watching, stop complaining and get some pointers from Palmer on how it's done.

Maybe we can go back to the days when cigarette companies sponsored races as well.
ReplyDeleteFinally a silver lining to it all...
