As we mentioned here once before, Tyler Palmer, a true legend of our sport, is facing some serious health issues and needs the support of the community that he has given so much to. Tyler was the first American male to win a World Cup - the St. Moritz SL in January, 1971. More recently, he served as a truly dedicated and passionate coach for Sun Valley, one of those coaches universally loved and respected by his athletes. At the end of last year, Tyler felt he
had to leave the Sun Valley ski team in order to get control of his
diabetes and his
Addison's Disease - neither of which can be cured. He has moved back to New England to be closer to his core group of family and friends, many of whom have been valuable resources in caring for him and helping him reach the care he needs.
You can make a tax-deductible donation to the Bald Mountain Rescue Fund, which will direct your donation to helping Tyler cover his considerable medical expenses. As is the case for many of us on the ground in ski racing, earning a relatively low wage during seasonal work, Tyler does not have health insurance.

to Tyler Palmer - I was young ski racer age 12 at MOUNT SNOW VERMONT and the PRO SKI Tour came to town a few times in the mid 1970s. You were sitting in the Lodge and I sat next to you and told you how I had stayed up to wee hours of the morning to watch you ski Slalom at the Sapporo Olympics. You were so kind and engaged me for at least a half hour. You were actually flattered that you were a Ski Racing hero to me. Thank you for that moment. Expect a check from me in the mail.
